Much of their time is spent in classrooms providing Comprehensive School Counseling Curriculum to students. Topics covered include: Bullying, Understanding your Transcript, Freshman success, Digital Citizenship, and Identifying your Emotions. School Counselors meet with students one-on-one to support students with ongoing social/emotional, academic or college/career concerns. Sometimes small groups are run throughout the year. These groups are based on school needs and change often. Topics have included: Girl Empowerment, Social Skills development, Anger management, and Grief/Loss Support. |
Confidentiality is a huge responsibility. For many people it's helpful for them to understand that we do not share the things students, parents, or teachers talk about with us unless it is affecting the physical/emotional well-being of the student or others. This because building a trusting relationship is the most helpful thing that School Counselors can do with students and their families.
